Sarah and Joe’s wedding day was a celebration of love, nature, and all things autumn. Set against the backdrop of the historic FEAST at Round Hill in Washingtonville, NY, the couple tied the knot surrounded by vivid foliage, crisp autumn air, and their closest family and friends. If you’re dreaming of an autumn Hudson Valley wedding that blends the timeless beauty of nature with the most vibrant hues of the season, Sarah and Joe’s big day will give you all the fall feels.
The Love Story
Sarah and Joe’s journey started in their senior year at Union College. Their mutual friend, Matt, unknowingly played matchmaker, inviting Joe to weekly dinners with Sarah. Although Joe “crashed” these dinners at first, Sarah quickly grew fond of him, and the rest is history! After Sarah left for a community service fellowship in Ecuador post-graduation, their love only deepened, proving that distance truly does make the heart grow fonder.
Joe’s proposal took place on the peaceful shores of Fire Island, one of Sarah’s favorite vacation spots. Joe was nervous and couldn’t wait to make the ask. With grocery bags in hand (and Sarah in her favorite Rugrats t-shirt), Joe dropped to one knee, and amidst the chaos of first-night vacation unpacking, he popped the question. Her response? A classic “Are you joking?”—followed by a heartfelt “Yes.”
A Wedding Full of Fall Magic
As Sarah would say, “Fall is my favorite part of being a New Englander.” And what a perfect season it was to celebrate their love. On a crisp, sunny autumn day, the Hudson Valley was glowing with shades of orange, red, and yellow. The couple exchanged vows under a chuppah adorned with lush florals in a seasonal palette, an Idyllwild favorite. With a close friend (and personal trainer!) officiating, they paid tribute to Sarah’s Jewish heritage by incorporating the tradition of breaking the glass. They later did a lively hora, much to the joy of Sarah’s mother. She’d waited 30 years for this dance.
The Details that Made It Personal
Sarah’s bridesmaids wore a lovely array of jewel-toned dresses, each a unique color, allowing their personalities to shine. (It’s worth mentioning that this made for some seriously beautiful autumn photos, courtesy of Erica at Sweet Alice Photography!)
Making Personal Choices a Part of the Wedding Story
One of the reasons Sarah and Joe connected with Idyllwild was that we were a total values match. These are turbulent times, but Sarah and Joe still made their wedding day about more than just themselves. They sought out vendors of color, they included their community in their day, and they made sustainable choices.
Joe’s godmother’s salon handled hair, and Sarah’s friend Chelsea naturally dyed the getting ready robes to match the ladies’ dresses. She also used Sarah’s bouquet flowers to make natural dyes for socks! Such a fun way to preserve your bouquet, relive your day, and stay cozy for many autumns to come.
In lieu of traditional wedding favors, save-the-dates, or welcome bags, the couple chose to donate a portion of their wedding fund to organizations meaningful to them—showing that their love extends well beyond the day itself.
As an ardent coffee lover, it wasn’t lost on anyone that Sarah was marrying her favorite “cup of Joe”. The couple made sure to include several nods to this cute coincidence. Look at this adorable photo booth backdrop they had Idyllwild create!
One of the highlights of the day? Sarah’s first look with her dad. “It was one of the most emotional moments,” Sarah said, reflecting on the flood of memories and love during that special time.
An Autumn Dream Wedding in Hudson Valley
The grounds at FEAST provided the perfect backdrop for their celebration. From the sprawling outdoor spaces to the giant tree that framed their ceremony, guests had plenty of room to wander, relax, and enjoy the day. The reception space was equally stunning, with tables adorned with bold, autumnal florals that complemented the natural surroundings.
Sarah and Joe’s wedding was a feast for the senses—literally and figuratively. FEAST at Round Hill’s food was a big draw for the couple, and it didn’t disappoint. Their guests were treated to a culinary experience that matched the beauty of the day.
